The challenges of being a hockey player and mom, Cindy Hack’s Family Story – 2
5. How big was the effort to get you back to the top of your game?
I had continued training in my fitness even when I was pregnant. I was swimming right up to the week before she was born, so the training was not the biggest adjustment, the hardest thing of all was the hours, sometimes days and then even weeks, when I had to leave my little baby and my hubby Ryan as he was and is the Men’s South African indoor coach so he was away a lot too. It was made easier by the wonderful support system of my mom and nanny Thuli, and her beloved uncle Mike. But even then, the greatest effort was in having to make the decision of putting my team and the game as the first priority in my mind. This was difficult because when you are a mom your number one priority is your baby.
6. What advice can you tell those female players that becoming or will become mothers?
It CAN be done. If you love the game, have the passion, and have those around you who can love and care for your little one, then go for it! It is worth the hours of dedication and sacrifice and as a mom you know what those hours are and how to use your time efficiently.
7. What is in the future for you personally and for your family?
At this time I am still training for indoor hockey and I will always keep fit. Maybe at some time in the future will think about having a sibling for Addison!
