Not every player is happy with the IHL 2016 “2 points rule”…
P.R. Sreejesh, Indian goalkeeper, is not happy with the IHL 2 points rule
The 2016 version of the Hockey India League (IHL) introduced the “2 goal points for field goal rule” and it received a lot of positive comments however, there are players and fans who are not happy about using this rule worldwide….
One of these players is the Indian goalkeeper, P.R. Sreejesh who told Sports Cafe that he was not very impressed and has come out against it calling it unfair for the goalies.
“I am against it” he quoted. “When you concede five goals and the board shows 10 it’s a bit demotivating for the goalkeeper. It’s great entertainment for the spectators, but it’s a challenging task for the goalkeeper.”
As a matter of fact, the final match of the HIL 2016 is a clear example: the final score was 6-1 for Jaypee Punjab Warriors although only 3 goals were scored by the champs (field goals).
“Nowadays, conceding a field goal is worse than a penalty-corner, so we are more worried about that,” he added.
In addidion to P.R. Sreejesh, the Indian attacker S.V. Sunil was also against the 2-point rule: “It helps the forwards. We will try more to score field goals. But I don’t feel this should be implemented at the international level. It will be difficult for the team.”
These opinions come in right after an article called “Let’s debate: The plan to reinvent hockey’s circle”, where the idea of reinventing, and enlarging, the hockey circle was discussed…
