Drag flick step 1: Timing

The moment of engagement with the ball is perfect. His steps towards the ball are well coordinated in order to arrive just when the ball is stopped.

Drag Flick 2nd Step – Front feet crossover:

There are basically 3 ways to take the final step on the drag flick: crossing the right foot behind the left, marking a sidestep or, in Peillat’s case, crossing the right foot in the front of the body. This is his final step and it happens on the moment that he contacts the ball. In addition, we need to focus that the ball is picked up from behind his body and released in front of him, using the maximum reach possible.

Drag Flick 3rd Step – Circle penetration:

His final step is extremely long which allows him to have a long swing and the space to have a proper upper body rotation. In addition, this final step allows him to get very low in order to add power to his shot. Finally, the distance that between the moment that he first takes the ball until he releases it, is very long, allowing him to release the ball 2 to 3 meters inside the D.

Drag Flick 4th Step – Acceleration:

With the final step, he accelerates the rotation of the upper body in order to add the power to his shot. Also, we need to focus on:
– The height of the grip with the ground is very small, meaning the the stick is very low and parallel with the pitch.
– The right knee is below the line of the left one, which shows how low his body position is.

Drag Flick 5th Step – Body Weight Transfer:

The body weight transfers forward in coordination with his body rotation. The transfer of the weight goes from the right foot all the way towards the left foot (the one in the front). All the weight is transferred forward laying on the left leg.
